Oh dear, first casualty alert!

So the dreaded 21 has finally claimed its first casualty. I believe this calls for a moment of silence for the first member of The Gang has taken her first (and probably extremely traumatising step) into adulthood. This has started the clock for the rest of us; it won't be long before we too fall victim to such a fate.While I'm neither the first nor the last in this painful wait, it will be interesting to see how each of us react to this coming of age and predict that of my own as well. So to bury the last vestiges of childhood and to usher in endless mountains of responsibilities, debts, wrinkles and aching bones, here's a short poem -for the lack of a better word- I (rushed/)did for her last night.

Alas my friend you are finally 21

But fret not for your life isn't done

Congratulations on being an adult

Dear lord I suggest you start filling that vault

Everyone else is shouting hip hip hooray

Fear not because I'm not going to ruin your day (much)

Good luck, good grades, good food, good life

Hopefully not painful jobs from 9 to 5

I’m going to have a little fun right now

J(<-o) loves J(o+), until both are lao

Kant was wise, that we know

Let’s hope you too continue to remain so

My gosh we are only half-way there

No I don’t mean it, please don’t despair

Obviously I was just pulling your leg

Please forgive me dearie, lest I beg

Quite honestly though please take care of yourself

Remember life is naught without good health

Stay creative, stay strong, stay cheerful and fun

Then you’ll forever shine as brightly as the sun

Understand that nothing can ever be perfect

Vent if you wish, but never leave it unchecked

Well looks like we are almost nearing the end

Xciting isn’t it, I deserve a hand

Yes I know I have a final thing to say,

No, I did not just send her the poem. I did a video of me rattling it off (and anxiously peaking at my laptop to make sure I got the order right) since each of us was supposed to do a personalised birthday video for her. (As usual, I was so late in sending mine in that it wasn't in the compilation. Still, it did reach her though! Saved me from further embarrassment by the rest too.) I didn't manage to memorise all the exact words although I made sure I kept the tempo similar if not identical to what is written above. Although it was much more work than just singing her a song, I can't think of a better time to show my appreciation to her (and subsequently, the rest of The Gang) for her boundless energy and enthusiasm in conjuring up wacky yet immensely fun to do birthdays for the rest of us. 

Even though she probably won't see this, I'll still wish her a painless transition to adulthood and a perpetually smooth sailing and joyous ride for the rest of her life! <3~

I dare not write a poem for you. You know that D:. This was more of... 'I-can't-think-of-a-better-idea-and-this-is-fun-for-both-me-and-her' kinda thing. :P I'll think of something when it's your doomsday; before that, I suggest you spin something magnificent when it's my turn!
